Set in Orlando

(2.5 hours’ drive from the house),

the Universal Studios site is just amazing. You should plan a whole day per park to make the most of the place, actually divided in two sites. The attractions are more teen/adult oriented but even the youngest will have fun. Brace yourself for thrills!! We tried “Jurassic Park”, “Harry Potter”, “Superman”, “Twister”,

“The Mummy” and, last but not least “Jaws”. All of them were huge!

You should also consider going to Universal Downtown :

you’ll walk through it on your way to the park. You’ll find restaurants there, as well as cafés, cinemas and a couple of unusual shops like “Bubba Gump shrimp company” (in reference to Forrest Gump).

A couple of minutes from the house is Anclote Park.

you’ll find there beaches where swimming is watched over, outdoor games for children, picnic areas with tables, chairs, barbecues to your disposal. The place is very quiet and pleasant. On the way there, you may see the famous American eagles (you can notice the photographers trying to picture them close to their nests) and wild peacocks. If you brought some bread with you, you’ll probably be “welcome” by squirrels and seagulls. If you’re lucky enough, you make come across dolphins in the swimming area. You may also meet fellow French tourists playing petanque, listening to guinguette music!

In the Wiki Watchee water park you can rent kayaks or canoes for an eight mile trip down the Wiki Watchee river (no particular difficulties, there is just enough current to go the distance in 3 hours with minimum effort). This protected site will delight you with beautiful landscapes. The river runs through a tropical forest. You

’ll come across many different animals like manatees and, if you feel comfortable, you may swin among them (they are used to tourist and let themselves get petted). You can stop on a sandbank or on a picnic area if you get tired, dive from the trees overlooking the river or play “Tarzan” with the ropes hanging there. Don’t forget to bring water and maybe something to eat. At the end, you’ll find swimming and tanning areas, lavatories and a large restaurant/bar. You should really see this wonderful

Here are several ideas of places to visit.

Less than 2 minutes from the house are several public parks where you can picnic along the water, play petanque, fish or simply enjoy the white-sand beaches. You must however pay $2 per car to access these places (since December 2010).

Homosassa is a place to go. In this animal park live dozens of manatees, Florida turtles and, of course, alligators.

“Bush gardens”

in Tampa is a large amusement park hosting one the highest rollercoasters in the world (70 meters high, thrills guaranteed!). The aviary is very interesting too : tropical birds will land on you to peck at your sandwiches or biscuits and will peck at your earlobes if you have nothing to give them!

Grown-ups can also have fun at the casinos such as the “Hard Rock Seminole Casino” and the “Sun Cruz Casino” in New Port Ritchey (15 mins drive). The latter is exceptional in that it is situated on a boat offshore since Native Americans are the only ones allowed to manage casinos on the US soil. You can reach the place with one of the shuttles that get there regularly.

April 2011 stay

Wonderful stay, you should follow the owner's

advice… We enjoyed the city of Tarpon Springs (5mins from the house), lots of tourists (park near the aquarium so that you don’t have to pay for a parking space) but wonderful boat ride in the Gulf of Mexico (we saw dolphins). Howard Park beach was very nice : besides the white sand and the clear warm sea, the palm-trees provide a nice shade. You can eat there if you want and the toilet is clean. A perfect place for children.

A precision on Wiki Watchee : you’d better book before the canoe ride.

The house is very comfy, close to many facilities and to the main road.

Very warm welcome, both in France and In the USA, we can’t wait to go back there! (the whole family agrees!)
